Message :The "old fashioned way"...get a friend, pull the plug and ground it, turn the motor over/run it (maybe put a plug in the cylinder to keep noise down!) and check for spark AT THE PLUG!

It is easier, I have no doubt about that ;-). But the cost is not insignificant for my grad student budget.* Also, since I am a grad student in engineering, the desire to find out why and the persistence to keep at it is strong to a fault (good for doing research, inefficient for getting things done in real life :-).

* Before someone lecture me for buying the car with a student budget (won't be the first time :-/), let me clarify that I bought this car 8 years ago when I was making very decent income. So, there! Lecture for still keeping it is, however, less defensible. What can I say? I love the $%#@ thing, and you love yours, too. :-P
